I peeled the road from the plastic sheet,
painted the lines on and put together the
grade crossing (railroad crossing).
This is done by laying the road across
the rails, pressing (with your finger) on
top of the road at each rail and then
cutting the road at the indentation
created by the rail.  Cut with scissors.
The road will fit flush against the rail.
The center piece should be trimmed to fit
so that your rolling stock pass freely
through without catching on the road.
Glue in place when you are satisfied.
This is what it looks like when the
center piece is cut to fit.

I have not glued the road down yet.
To get a smooth transition from the
contours of the model to the rails, I
needed to build a ramp.  I cut out some
Real Road (cardboard will do) and
made a ramp so the Road will fit flush
with the rails.  This is important:  You
can make the road fit level with the top
of the rails by building a ramp correctly.
