You can use any map, historical or modern to create
accurate to-scale roads for your layout.  You have to use
a graphics program that will allow you to resize the map
image you want to use.

This section will explain how to do it.
Boston -  1946
For this demonstation I am using a USGS map I found
of Boston from 1946.

You can search the Web for your map or scan it in (if
you have a scanner).
A lot of you have asked me about imbedded street rails and are
doing layouts of the Boston area.  I've gotten a section of the
Boston wharf area to illustrate this technique.
Bring the map image up using your graphics program and
zoom in to one 2 lane road in the picture.  Using your edit
cursor, make a box that lines up exactly at the roads edge.
